Moon Sang-min, who made his debut in the 2019 web drama “Four Reasons to Hate Christmas,” began to gain attention as an “emerging star” in 2022 with his role in the television drama “Shuroop: Under the queen’s umbrella” where he starred alongside Kim Hye-soo as a character from a wealthy family in Seong-nam.
Following “Shuroop” Moon Sang-min took on the roles of younger male characters from conglomerate families in the romantic comedy dramas “Wedding Impossible” and “Cinderella at 2 AM.” As he challenges himself with diverse characters and genres, his solid filmography is increasingly suggesting that he has the potential to become the next king of romantic comedies.

Shuroop: Under the queen’s umbrella
tvN’s ambitious drama “Shuroop:Under the queen’s umbrella” follows the struggles of a queen (Kim Hae-soo) who dives into a fierce royal education war for her uniquely spirited princes. The character played by Moon Sang-min, the second son of the queen, has been secretly raised in a civilian home instead of the palace, unaware of the reasons behind it.
One day, he is suddenly thrust into the palace as the second prince and spends his time defiantly ignoring studies and royal rules. After the unexpected death of his beloved and respected older brother, the crown prince (Bae In-hyuk), a competition to select the next crown prince begins, prompting him to fully engage in the rivalry to protect his brother’s son and family.
After joining “Shuroop:Under the queen’s umbrella” through auditions, Moon Sang-min was cast as the character of the second prince. His casting was decided based on the evaluation that “his gaze reveals various emotions.” Indeed, Moon Sang-min can appear sad at one moment, sharp the next, youthful, and then suddenly exude a sexy charm. This versatility is a crucial aspect of portraying the second prince.
The drama has garnered attention not only for Kim Hye-soo’s role as the heroine, who has maintained a top position as an actress for decades, but also for its overall story, which is rich with the dynamics of the royal court and the princes’ relationships.

Duty after school
For fans of the drama “Now, Our School Is” this disaster-thriller-sci-fi series set in a school is a must-watch. The character Won Te-man, who serves as the atmosphere maker in Class 2 of the third year, is played by Moon Sang-min. After filming this project, he joined the tvN drama “Shuroop: Under the queen’s umbrella” where he played the role of Seong-nam Daegun and captivated audiences with his charm. This work was released after “Shuroop” and served as a true test of his star potential, with successful results.
“Duty After School” is based on a webtoon of the same name. One day, high school seniors, with only 50 days left until the university entrance exams, find themselves not in an exam war but in an actual battle against mysterious life forms that have taken over the sky. This sci-fi drama is so thrilling that viewers will find it hard to stop watching.

Wedding Impossible
A delightful romantic comedy-drama depicting the clash of desires and a marriage opposition romance between a chaebol heir with a secret, an unnamed actress preparing for a camouflage marriage, and a sister filled with ambition. The heroine, Jeon Jong-seo, has consistently portrayed characters with intense impressions in films, but in this work, she takes on her first ordinary role since her debut. The adaptation from the web original is much more entertaining than the source material, offering a warmer feel and receiving positive reviews, particularly for its clever dialogue.
In its first week of airing, it ranked first in 100 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates on the global OTT platform Rakuten Viki, and also claimed the top spot in Indonesia on Amazon Prime Video, which is available in Southeast Asia, totaling 103 countries where it ranked first.

Cinderella at 2 AM
In this drama, Moon Sang-min skillfully brings out the joy and charm of familiar clichés through appropriate variations. Standing at 190 cm tall, with a captivating gaze that stirs the hearts of women and a perfectly tailored suit, he embodies the visual of a fairy tale prince. Moon Sang-min conveys a fresh thrill and enjoyment to viewers while showcasing the potential for a new “romantic king.”
He is the epitome of the perfect man often seen in Korean dramas, but his refreshing presence makes even the clichés feel appealing.
Although there were concerns about the 14-year age gap with the heroine, Shin Hyun-bin, the chemistry they display is surprisingly captivating, making the age difference hardly noticeable. Such a younger partner like hime is simply the best.
